Rome will party from dusk to dawn on Saturday, September 8th, when the city celebrates its fifth annual ‘Notte Bianca’ (White Night). Dozens of attractions will stay open until the early hours of Sunday morning, including the Colosseum, Capitoline Museum, Palazzo Farnese and Borghese Gallery, and there will be hundreds of other cultural events taking pace, ranging from poetry readings and magic shows to firework displays and rock concerts. In addition, public transport within the city will be free after 10pm and the metro will remain open.
La Notte Bianca began in 2003, a year after Paris started the ball rolling with their ‘Nuit Blanche’. Since then the idea has caught throughout Europe and this year six cities will be taking part with Riga (on September 8th), Bucharest (September 22nd), Madrid (September 22nd), Brussels (September 29th) and Paris (October 6th).
