De Londen Eye is de meest populaire betaalde atractie van Groot Britaine, bezocht door meer dan 3.5 miljoen bezoekers per jaar. Daarmee is het in korte tijd uitgegroeid tot een icoon van de stad.

GESCHIEDENIS
De Londen Eye is gebouwd als symbool voor de wisseling van de eeuw. Het symboleert het draaien van de seizoenen. Tony Blair opende het rad op 31 december 1999, maar wegens technische problemen konden de eerste passagiers pas een rit maken in maart 2000. De Londen Eye is ontworpen naar de visie van het ontwerpers echtpaar David Marks en Julia Barfield.

Wat de eifel toren is voor Parijs is de Tower Bridge samen met de Big Ben voor Londen. De brug over de theems. Is door zijn karaketeristieke uiterlijk het symbool van londen geworden. De brug herbergt een museum waar je kan ontdekken hoe de brug is gebouwd, hoe ie werkt en waar je kan genieten van een fantatisch uitzicht vanuit een de 65 m hoge torens. De Tower Brigde ontleent zijn naam aan de naastgelegen Londen Tower die ook zeker een bezoekje waard is.

GESCHIEDENIS
In de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw ontstond er behoeft aan een nieuwe brug. Vanwege de scheepvaart was het niet mogelijk een vaste brug te bouwen. In 1876 werd een Bridge or Subway Committee opgericht, die een oplossing voor het probleem moest zien te vinden. Uit meer dan 50 inzendingen van ontwerpen werd in 1884 het ontwerp van Horace Jones (de City Architect), goedgekeurd.

Dus, ik ben jullie nog een paar maandjes aan verhalen schuldig, misschien moet ik maar wat bewaren voor als ik thuis ben. Hoe dan ook, we staan op het punt van vertrekken, uit Christchurch. Zodoende moet ik mijn blog-ritme weer (her)vinden en proberen weer een soort van ‘regelmatige’ berichten gaan plaatsen zodat jullie, de geinterreseerden, een beetje een idee hebben van wat er allemaal aan dee hand is hier :).

Daarom eerst maar eens een zeer ingekorte samenvatting van wat jullie nog niet weten… Sinds mijn laatste bericht (Sushi-party) heb ik op de kermis gewerkt voor drie weken, heeft Sandra een zwaar ongeluk gehad, zijn we na wat moeite en papierwerk een aantal weken na het verlopen van ons visum naar Nieuw Zeeland gevlogen, hebben we een rugby wedstrijd van de ‘All Blacks’ tegen Zuid-Afrika gezien en zijn we naar het Guns n Roses world tour concert geweest. Daarnaast heeft Sandra inmiddels drie baantjes achter de rug en heb ik meegeholpen aan het bouwen van een nieuw web-product voor de duitse markt (http://www.adscale.de/)

Daat waren de hoogtepunten van de maanden waarin ik stilletjes de kou heb zitten overleven hier in Christchurch, Nieuw Zeeland. Nu dat de bloemetjes weer bloeien, het gras groen ziet, je adem niet meer zichtbaar is en de lammetjes dartelen over de weides, zijn Sandra en ik op het punt gekomen waar we toch echt weer op pad willen. Zaterdag de 27ste is de dag dat ons huis niet meer ons huis is en we Nieuw Zeeland onveilig gaan maken, waarschijnlijk doen we dat eerst heerlijk ontspannen in de warme bronnen van Maruia Springs, je kan nou eenmaal niet alles hebben
